Our Season So Far . . .

Well, so far our season has been fantastic, we headed out on the road again and all of us at Wedding Yurts are loving living the nomadic wedding life in the great outdoors once more. It’s a simple way of life for sure but I know that I’m at my happiest when I’m out, soaking up the beauty of the natural world.

We started in early April with a beautiful Spring Wedding. Mike and Charlotte were blessed with glorious sunshine and what made it even more special was their ceremony which took place in our ‘magnificent 32ft Yurt’, the first ever wedding ceremony in the yurts!

We then headed north to host a wedding for Sarah and Phil at their beautiful small holding in the Yorkshire Dales. So many gorgeous personal touches at this wedding including a yurt full of silver birch trees for wedding favours, and a new brood of chickens which were all named after us!

Our Spring Open Week at Wye Valley View Weddings was very special, this new outdoor wedding venue is perfectly located near Ross on Wye in Herefordshire. Now, I absolutely love this part of the UK and this week was full of blue skies and sunshine so it really couldn’t have been a more perfect setting for Wedding Yurts!

The view from Wye Valley View Weddings is just spectacular. The fields were full of golden yellow rapeseed and they seemed endless – stretching as far as the eye could see, all the way to the Black Mountains in Wales and beyond.

The surrounding area was also my idea of heaven – there were ancient woods, finished with carpets of bluebells, rolling lush green hills and private river banks that were just perfect for a spot of wild swimming. I spent the week being strongly reminded of my home, which is also on the Shropshire border, just a few miles north.

There was also a beautiful walk from the venue through the fields, along the River Wye and into the town, which is full of vintage and charity shops. As you can imagine, I was in my element hunting for props for the season ahead and some of them have already been part of our yurt weddings.

So now I’ve mentioned weddings, let me tell you a little bit more about our Spring Open Week. Our yurt venue was set up at Wye Valley View Weddings for ten terrific days and I loved having the opportunity to hang out and spend some quality time enjoying our lovely handmade yurts and chatting with all the brilliant couples to came to visit. We made lots of plans for so many exciting outdoor weddings over big pots of tea and delicious cakes and our 2017 calendar is nearly full already so do get in touch if you’re yet to book.

Whilst we were there, we were also visited by some of my favourite wedding suppliers and we had days and days of fun creating, making the yurts beautiful and hatching plans for the future.

We also had not just one but two photo shoots during the week and  you’ll want to keep an eye on Love My Dress and The Natural Wedding Company where you’ll see our Spring Shoot and Eco Wedding Shoot in full very soon. . .

I am so excited about the photos I simply have to show you a couple of sneak peeks now. Firstly, our annual Spring Shoot was shot by the wonderful Alethiea from Xander and Thea.

Secondly, we created a Spring Wedding Eco Festival featuring the work of our faves – Honeysuckle Flower Co, Love LotusBlue Wren Barn and Toots Sweets to name but a few! Beautiful photos by Katrina Bartlem.

Wye Valley View Weddings – ticks all of the boxes for a yurt-friendly venue and is already on my list of favourite wedding locations. Since then we have hosted yurt weddings in Oxfordshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire and now we are in the beautiful New Forest creating this weekend’s wedding at this insanely beautiful site.

Did I mention how much I love my job!!! I feel so very blessed to be able to travel around the U.K, discovering new places and magical locations for our Wedding Yurts venue. Do get in touch if you need help finding the perfect spot to celebrate your wedding day.

The Wedding Yurts Spring Open Week 1st – 7th May 2016

Hello and welcome back to the Wedding Yurts blog! We’re busy preparing to hit the road for our first wedding of the summer and we can’t wait to restart hosting fabulous yurt weddings. 2016 is set to take us to some seriously beautiful locations around the UK but, before we start our travels, we’re here to warmly invite you to our Spring Open Week that will be taking place from the 1st – 7th of May in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.

Wedding Yurts Invitation

Wedding Yurts will be set up at a brand new wedding venue, Wye Valley View Weddings, that’s in glorious Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire. This is such an amazing site – we so excited to show you the spectacular views that take in miles and miles of perfect countryside!

We’re also incredibly excited to be hosting our first Open Week. In the past, we’ve run open weekends but this year, thanks to huge demand, we’re going to be welcoming you to the Wye Valley View Weddings site for an entire week of Wedding Yurts goodness.

We’ll have the yurts set-up and dressed for the wedding so you can really get a sense of the space and opportunity that awaits you inside our handmade yurts.

This year, I’ll be styling the yurts with the help of the lovely Jess from Blue Wren Barn

and Christiane from Honeysuckle Flower Co. so you can be absolutely sure that the yurts will be looking their best inside and out. Christiane was part of last spring’s open event and photo shoot that you might have seen on Love My Dress so expect all the pretty this year!

We know that glamping is a super popular option for our couples and they love to provide accommodation for their guests in a way that totally matches the style of their wedding. So, we’re really happy that Love Lotus will be joining us at our Open Week with their heavenly bell tents. These are beyond perfect for outdoor and festival style weddings not to mention other occasions when you might like to glamp. We know you’re going to love them!

A wedding wouldn’t be a wedding without fantastic food and we are overjoyed that the team from Poco’s will be bringing along the very best of their eco wedding menu from the 3rd-6th for you to try. Enjoy tasters from their delicious wedding feasts menu that features seasonal and locally sourced ingredients and treat yourself to food that tastes as good as it looks. We just know that Wedding Yurts and Poco’s food will be the perfect match!

Viewings during our Open Week are by appointment only so contact Lizzie on 07816 452080 or to secure your spot at our Spring wedding festival.

I can’t wait to show you around our Wedding Yurt venue and introduce you to our favourite suppliers.

Lizzie xx

Thank You For A Wonderful 2015

24th of December 2015

As we prepare to take our festive break, I thought I’d take a few moments out to look back on what has been a very special year for Wedding Yurts. It was a season where we literally hopped from one beautiful field to another as we wound our way across the country, hosting sixteen yurt weddings between April and September. Our brides and grooms, their friends and families, the suppliers and locations not to mention my amazing team have made this year unforgettable.

It is, as much as ever, a huge honour and a massive privilege to be part of so many special days. I absolutely love witnessing two families come together to celebrate a marriage and the endless amounts of love and commitment from everyone involved blows me away. Together at every wedding, we’ve created the most amazing and heartfelt weddings.

Now, as you might know, Wedding Yurts is a little bit different to most tent hire companies. To start with, we stay on site for the whole week in the lead up to the wedding. We’re there setting up the yurts, decorating and styling everything to perfect and, of course, we’re there to support and help our couples for the entire week. It’s so much fun getting to know everyone and, when I look back on the year, I’m smiling at the thought of so many friendships made.

We’re very lucky to visit so many beautiful places around the UK and it’s absolutely true to say that the nomadic wedding life in the British summertime is bliss and I feel so very grateful that this unique experience is such an integral part of my life.

But, what makes me deeply happy are the comments from our couples. Knowing that we’ve have such an impact on them and that we were part of such a once-in-a-lifetime experience fills me with joy so here are a few words from brides and grooms who’ve been part of the Wedding Yurts story in 2015…

“From the moment we saw the Wedding Yurts website, Rich and I knew that we didn’t want anyone else to host our wedding… We were so excited to meet up on that freezing, blowy and rainy day in February and we knew that we were the people for us. Throughout the whole process, Lizzie was amazing and Lizzie and Jim arrived at our venue a few days before the wedding and coordinated pretty much the entire thing… They really went above and beyond to ensure that we had the perfect day and we really felt they were part of the family.” Helena & Rich

“Wedding Yurts are perfect for a relaxed but elegant venue and are both practical and beautiful whilst creating a unique look. Lizzie and the team were fantastic at helping my ideas come to life, with helpful advice and input when asked for and they were on hand whenever necessary. Thank you for all your help and for making our day extra special.” Lucy & Sam

“Wedding Yurts, well what can I say? Lizzie, Jim and the team did an amazing job from start to finish. The yurts themselves are amazing and we had all four yurts for our wedding in May and we were blessed with stunning weather. The team did a brilliant job with the decorations and took the pressure off us completely and even when a truckload of unannounced hay bales arrived, Lizzie and Jim took it all in their stride. They worked really hard on the day too, making sure that everything was in order and running smoothly. We can’t recommend Wedding Yurts highly enough – our wedding day really was perfect thanks to you.” Sarah & Keith

“Our day was perfect, better than we ever could have dreamed of and a huge part of that was down to the beautiful yurts and Lizzie’s creative styling to suit our theme. The wedding was truly unique and personal to us – even our photographer said that in the twenty odd years he had been in the business, he’d never seen anything so unique! We absolutely loved our day and our only complaint is that it was over too quick! We now have a lifetime of memories and thank you Lizzie, Jim and the team at Wedding Yurts.” Kirstie & Tad

I want to take this opportunity to say a gigantic thank you to all of our lovely couples, everyone we’ve worked with and to my amazing team – 2015 wouldn’t have been so brilliant without you all.

Keith and Sarah Wedding, May 2015

Finally, all that’s left to do is for me to wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmastime and to say that we’ll be back in 2016 for more beautiful yurt weddings.

My nomadic life continues . . .

9th of December 2015

I have just spent the last couple of weeks volunteering at the refugee camp called The Jungle in Calais. It is a completely bonkers and crazy place. On one hand it is horrific, heartbreaking and inhumane and on the other it is absolutely amazing with human kindness and generosity in abundance. There are so many beautiful and caring people – I have shared hundreds of smiles, received so many hugs and been totally inspired by people’s ability to be strong and resilient, work together in solidarity and feel hope.

I have been involved in food distribution, working together with grass-roots organisations and volunteers to create a cohesive and sustainable plan for hot food distribution over the winter. It’s amazing what you can achieve in a couple of weeks with a bunch of like minded people, all on a mission to create an environment where basic human needs, such as hot food, clean water, shelter and warmth are catered for. There are teams of people working around the clock cooking, building, distributing warm cloths and fire wood – no one gets paid and there are no big organisations.

There are approximately 6000 + people living in The Jungle where sanitation is poor and there is very little infrastructure. I have personally witnessed very heavy handed behaviour by the police – using tear gas is a regular occurrence, terrorising innocent people just seems to be the norm with no one regulating what is right and wrong.

The French government simply won’t acknowledge there is a humanitarian crisis happening in Calais and will not give the camp the refugee status it requires in order for the U.N. and other NGOs to step in. The weather is also causing havoc in The Jungle – huge amounts of rain have turned the ground into a quagmire and the gale force winds rip through tents and flatten shelters.

So, the combination of the police brutality, lack of support from the government and the harsh winter weather makes every day life in the camp very difficult.

There are no solutions at the moment and so I feel it is important to help our friends, our fellow human beings, offer our support and come together in solidarity.

I have some time during our Winter season so I am heading back out there tomorrow for a week or so before Christmas and, while I’m there, all will be quite on the Wedding Yurts front but I promise I will be back soon with highlights from our summer of love.

Peace be upon you,

Lizzie x

Contrasting Luxury – The Wedding Yurts Spring Styled Shoot

18th of June 2015

Well, this is the perfect post with which to celebrate Midsummer! I’m so excited to share the images from our annual spring shoot with you and I know you’ll love them as much as I do. I wanted to give this shoot a really feminine feel and create something that’s full of fun and just oozes a beautiful, relaxed yet super luxe atmosphere with lots of laughter. In short, it’s a shoot that absolutely reflects everything that Wedding Yurts is all about.

The shoot features a decadent yet light colour palette of cream, gold and blush with flecks of pinks and copper touches. The simple glass jars are filled with masses of seasonal English flowers, delicate lace tablemats contrast with concrete candleholders and soft gowns combine with edgy hairstyles. It’s a story of contrasts and a tale of the gloriously unexpected that really appeals to me.

Every element you see and every detail you notice is just full of surprises. From the gold industrial plastic chairs that contrast with the natural structure of the yurts and the tulle and sequins that sit among straw bale sofas and old wooden crates to the tarnished silver cutlery and etched crystal saucers that hold vintage champagne or one of Wedding Yurts’ signature cocktails (and you can see more of these over on Coco Wedding Venues too!)

I also wanted to add another layer of interest by featuring a best woman rather than a retinue of bridesmaids so you’ll see these happy friends indulging with oysters, champagne and delicious cakes whilst enjoying their gorgeous surroundings.

It would be brilliant to see more best women at weddings and having a met a few in the last couple of years, I can say that they’re always fabulous. They make the most touching speeches and they’re totally there for the bride. It’s a truly suitable title for your very best friend.

And this shoot was an amazingly suitable way for us to kick off what’s going to be a fantastic year for Wedding Yurts. As you read this, we’re getting ready to get back on the road for our nomadic wedding life and enjoy almost three months of back-to-back weddings during the summer months. We can’t wait and we’ll be sharing lots of snippets on Instagram so make sure you’re following us there. There will also be lots more on our blog – see you back here soon.

Love, Lizzie x

p.s. If you can’t wait for our next post featuring our beautiful wedding yurts, then why not hop on over to Bespoke Bride where you can see the yurts featuring in another shoot with a totally different style.
